Qur’an & Music

When `Abdullah ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the meaning of the term ‘lahw al-Hadith’, he replied I swear by Allah whom there is no other God, that it refers to singing.

This is the view of the eminent companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the eminent scholars of the Ummah including the four Imams of Fiqh (Jurisprudence).

Abu `Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash`ari narrated that he heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying, “From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful.” (Al-Bukhari)

Here, Sheikh Nouman Khan expresses his opinion regarding the ruling of music and its negative effects on the behaviors. He said that it is audio pornography today. It is explicit, shameless, and vulgar. It makes men looks at women as objects, worse than objects, worse than animals. Then, he talks about the young who try to memorize the book of Allah and at the same time they repeat the songs. The Almighty Allah says:

And tell My servants to say that which is best. (Al-Israa’ 17:53)

Enjoy listening to this precious advice to realize how the music could take us away from the Qur’an and the way of Allah.
