Reflections on Surat Noah

In this talk, Sheikh Muhammad Sajid reflects on Surat Noah (the 71st chapter of the Qur’an which was revealed in Makkah) The Surah narrates  the story of Prophet Noah and his people who rejected his calling to the oneness of Allah. Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) was the first person appointed to a prophetic mission and was sent to mankind with the divine laws by Allah. Prophet Noah was one the five messengers whom are known as ‘ulu-al-`Azm’, or the messengers with power and resolve.

Noah (peace be upon him) was a great prophet who remained calling his people to the way of Allah for very long time. The Almighty Allah says:

And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years… (Al-`Ankabut 29:14)

Sheikh Muhammad begins his talk by reciting the whole chapter and follows the recitation by a short introduction to the Surah and the cause of revelation. The Qur’an describes how Prophet Noah began his mission:

“He said, “O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner, [Saying], ‘Worship Allah , fear Him and obey me. Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah , when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew.’ ” (Nuh 71:2-4)

Then, Almighty Allah describes the hardships that faced Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) while preaching and delivering the message of Allah to his people. Prophet Noah called them day and night, separately, openly, and secretly so that they could accept the order of Allah, but they did not.
