Distractions: A Lesson from Surat At-Takathur

In this short talk, Sheikh Nouman reflects on Surat At-Takathur (the 102nd Chapter of the Qur’an which was revealed in Makkah and it talks about the love of this world and not thinking of the Hereafter) to explain that the wealth could be a great source of evil.

In the beginning, Sheikh Nouman recites the whole Surah with a beautiful recitation and then begins to explain the meanings of words. The word ‘Lahw’ which literally means ‘entertainment’ and it could be understood as “something that keeps one busy and takes him away from doing his duties”.

Then he clarifies the literal meaning of the word ‘ilha’ which means ‘to be distracted from something more important than another”.

Then, Sheikh Nouman narrates the incident that happened at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with his companions that made him tell Abu Bakr and `Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) “this is na`eem that you will be asked about.”

After that, he shows the reality of this world and its pleasures which take one from thinking about the Hereafter and this dunya is just a test for the wealthy and the poor. Enjoy watching this interesting reflections with Sheikh Nouman Khan.
